This week in Taking Flight

On Week 3 of the Season of Creation we turn our attention to the sky. This is another bumper Taking Flight edition full of resources and links.

What do we see when we look into the sky? I guess it depends on our point of view. In our lectionary reading from the Psalms today the writer declares, “The heavens keep telling the wonders of God, and the skies declare what he has done.” However, readings from the gospel and the prophet tell of a different kind of sky. Both speak of the sky turning dark as a result of stubborn human activity that strayed from, and opposed, God’s will. God forbid that we would look to the sky and just think of a polluted atmosphere that makes us sad and makes us sick! Rather we want to be those who, when we look up, will add our voices to the song of the psalmist.
